Nowashe Village is proud to announce a wide variety of offerings in celebration of Indigenous Peoples Day from 11a to 4p.

  • Clan Mother Shoran Piper (Golden Hill Paugussett) will start the day off with an opening blessing.
  • James Beard Award-winning Chef Sherry Pocknett (Mashpee Wampanoag), owner of Sly Fox Den II Restaurant and recently featured in Time Magazine, will present an Indigenous food demonstration.
  • Sly Fox Den also will have a pop-up tent on the premises serving Indigenous foods and beverages to paying customers. 
  • We will also be welcoming the Sin Fronteras group who will be performing live throughout the day in Nowashe Village.  The Sin Fronteras are a group of Indigenous musicians from South America who play traditional instruments, such as the flute and charango. 
  • Finally, join outdoors guide Jack Albano, owner of Metacomet Canoe & Kayak, for a tour of the CT River in South Windsor. Learn about the CT River’s vital role in Indigenous life yesterday and today. Canoe trips last approximately 45 minutes long and run at: 11:15 a.m.; 12:30 p.m.; 1:45 p.m.; and 3 p.m. Meet at the Vibert Road Landing in South Windsor.
  • Dan Shears (Nulhegan Abenaki) will also be on hand to speak with visitors about the Nulhegan Band of the Abenaki.
