Best Roller Skating Rinks in Connecticut for Families

The thought of a roller rink transports me back to Jordache jeans, feathered hair and and KC and the Sunshine Band blaring on the turntable. Luckily, we've evolved from the 70's and 80's in many areas, but there are still working roller rinks in our fine state. Many have closed due to the popularity of ice rinks, but we did some research so you can introduce your children to the fun of roller skating if you haven't already!

Skate-Inn in Plainfield 
Skate lessons on Thursdays and open skate on Friday, Saturday and SundayFamily pizza nights include pizza, drinks, skate rentals and two hours of skating for only $29.95 per family (additional charge per person after six people). There are two party package options that are very reasonable.

Middletown Roller Skating Rink 
Open since 1948, this center changed ownership in 2002 when a former Physical Education teacher took over. Public skating lessons for ages five and up are the bread and butter here, promoting family fitness. If you want to skate without kids, try the Rollerdurance workouts on Monday nights. They offer summer camps, private parties and skate rentals from toddler size six to men's 14.

Rollermagic Waterbury Skating Center  
This facility offers several open skate options, including a 21 and over skate. You can rent roller skates or roller blades and enjoy the special effects lighting and powerful sound system. An arcade and snack bar are available and the rink accommodates private parties. There is a $10 minimum for credit cards and an ATM on site.

Galaxy Roller Rink in Groton  
This Groton landmark has been around since 1955 but is updated and modern. There is always a live DJ playing the best tunes and organizing games and contests for everyone from tots to adults. Skate rentals and lessons are available, as well as a full snack bar. They are closed Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday for private functions but have open skate on other days. Their "Glow Rooms" with laser light shows are a big hit for birthday parties and other small events.

Ron-A-Roll Skating Center in Vernon  
Right of I-84, you'll find this center has a ton of opportunities for kids. Everything from homeschool days, tiny tot skate with bounce houses, kids only lessons, and a nice variety of open skate times to accommodate all schedules. They also have adult skates and Rollerdurance fitness classes. Private parties and group rates are available. Cash only, ATM on site.
