Children’s Texas Art Festival at Bayou Bend
Visit Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens for an afternoon of free, family-friendly fun. The Children’s Texas Art Festival celebrates art—created by and for children—that helps forge a connection to Texas and American heritage.
Highlights include artisan demonstrations by the Houston Area Blacksmith Association, painter Joseph Dixon, and Raum Furniture and Music by guitar, banjo, and gourd player JAWAD. There is interactive play and learning at “Texas History Encounters,” hosted by Archaeology Now, and drumming, dancing, and tribal art with Calmecac Indigenous Organization. There is also creating fiber art in a drop-in workshop with teaching artist Deanna Santiago, playing “Deep in the Heart of Texas” on diatonic bells, and discovery activities in the historic house about the lives of children in the 1600s to 1800s.
