Holiday Toy Donation Events in Connecticut

12/8/14 - By Pam Hegner

The true meaning of the holiday season is to give to those in need. Nothing warms your heart more than seeing a child open a doll or fire truck they have been dreaming about. Here are some events happening across Connecticut that will help teach your children about the importance of charity.

December 13: Stock the Cruiser (Hartford County)
The Canton Police Department will have a cruiser at the Shoppes of Farmington Valley to stuff with donations of toys and non-perishable food items. The goods will be distributed to needy families in the area. The Shoppes have several places to buy items, so have fun shopping with your children before heading over to the cruiser.

December 13: Stuff-A-Truck (Litchfield County)
The Kent Volunteer Fire Department hosts this event in conjunction with the Parade of Lights. Stop by the firehouse from 10am-4pm and help them collect unwrapped toys and food items to benefit the Kent Santa Fund and Kent Food Bank.

December 13-14: Holiday Toy Drive (Fairfield County)
The Western CT State University Police and Bethel Police are setting up shop at Target in Bethel to gather toy donations for the CT Department of Children and Families. Who doesn't love shopping at Target, especially for a great cause!

December 18: Toys for Tots Party (New Haven County)
Holly Lafond and Jim Fitzsimmons share a birth date of 12/18 and a 40-year long friendship. For the 24th year, they continue the tradition of hosting a birthday bash to collect toys for needy families in New Haven County. This year they hope to break the 2013 mark of over 3,800 toys. Gaetano's Tavern is the spot to see Santa, hear live music and enjoy free food. Bring an unwrapped toy for ages 16 and party on!

December 18-21: State Police Annual Toy Drive (Hartford County)
Over 40 State Troopers will be stationed at three Toys-R-Us locations in Manchester, Newington and West Hartford to collect toys over four days. This is a tradition nearly 20 years old, and benefits little ones hospitalized at Connecticut Children's Medical Center during the holidays and throughout the year.

December 21: Meyer Holiday 5K Run for Toys (Fairfield County)
I love this event that combines the holiday spirit with some exercise! The $12 entry fee to the race must be accompanied by an unwrapped toy for ages 1-16. The Fairfield Police will be distributing the donations to needy families. The course is flat and family-friendly, so run, walk or just spectate! Food and warm drinks served after.
