Hello, February! Even though we’re a little snow-covered and 6 more weeks of winter are predicted, there’s no reason to get bored with all the awesome events NJ has to offer! Get in the Valentine’s Day spirit with the delicious Chocolate Festival at Morris Museum, create a nature Valentine at Tulpehaking Nature Center or learn about and craft Vintage Valentines at the Miller-Cory House Museum. Make the most of this chilly season and head to Winterfest at Madison Public Library and let the kids get messy with a Sticky Snowman Craft at Turkey Swamp Park. Want to sit back and relax? Book your tickets to see the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company at NJPAC or the zany and fun “Frogz” at Mayo Performing Arts Center. Valentine’s Day Card Making (Short Hills, NJ)
The mall is a great outing to get the whole family out of the house and Pottery Barn Kids promises to keep the gang busy while you browse. Stop by this weekend and make a cool card for your special Valentine at their Short Hills, Hackensack, Princeton and Shrewsbury locations.

Saturday, February 7th

Chocolate Festival (Morristown, NJ)
Do we really need to explain why this is a must-do this weekend? Can't we just say "chocolate" and be done with it? Oh, okay. Movies, contests, crafts and a game of 'Name That Chocolate' sweeten up the fun at Morris Museum.

Winterfest (Madison, NJ)
Madison Public Library is hosting their second annual Winterfest. This event features ice painting, DIY snow globes and an ice-sculpture demonstration. At 2pm, Mad Science will perform the show "Up, Up, and Away!" for older kiddos, while Miss Margie the Librarian hosts a penguin-themed party for toddlers.

Art for Families (Princeton, NJ)
Families are invited to drop in at the beautiful Princeton University Art Museum on Saturday for family fun. Enjoy an interactive gallery activity and related art project. This weekend’s theme is the Wild West.

Valentine’s for Nature (Hamilton, NJ)
Stop by for a jam-packed afternoon at Tulpehaking Nature Center filled with crafts, stories and refreshments. Families can create a “Valentine for your Valentine” to bring home, a “Valentine for Nature” to hang on one of the trees outside the nature center or relax by the fireplace for storytelling time.

Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company (Newark, NJ)
The Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company celebrates the Year of the Sheep with this lively dance performance at NJPAC. The show features colorful costumes, live musicians and dazzling acrobats. An arts and crafts exhibit will be on display in the library following the performance.

Sunday, February 8th

Vintage Valentines (Westfield, NJ)
This Valentine's Day program at Miller-Cory House Museum features a display of vintage valentines including pop-up, fold-out, cut-out and three dimensional designs. Visitors will also hear stories, historical and fictional, about sending romantic messages in a bottle. Children will have the opportunity to create their own "message in a bottle" for a unique Valentine's Day gift.

Imago Theatre’s Frogz (Morristown, NJ)
A NY Times fave, Mayo Performing Arts Center presents "Frogz", which features penguins in musical chairs, a cat trapped in a giant paper bag, huge frogs doing calisthenics and larger-than-life alligators taunting the audience. Full of illusion, puppetry, and acrobatics that are goofy and packed with giggles for both adults and children.

Sticky Snowman Craft (Freehold, NJ)
Families are invited to Turkey Swamp Park to make marshmallow snowmen. Marshmallows, toothpicks and straws will be provided but you can use your imagination and bring additional supplies to "customize" your snowmen. After the craft, sit around the campfire and enjoy s'mores and hot chocolate – yum!
