The leaves are turning colors and there's a crispness in the air, which means It's time to hit up pumpkin patches near Long Island.

Happily, no matter where you live on Long Island, there are plenty of farms brimming with pumpkins perfect for picking. These venues often offer other family-friendly activities, such as Long Island's amazing corn mazes, so plan to make a day of it. Be warned that a day on the farm can get messy, so make sure the kids dress appropriately.

LI Pumpkin Patches in Nassau County

1. The Dees' Nursery & Florist – Oceanside

The nursery has started its Fall Festival, which continues each weekend through October, including on Columbus Day. Activities include a petting zoo, pumpkin picking and painting, gem mining, a corn maze, and a spooky walk. New for 2022 is a dino dig. The fall festival begins Saturday, September 17.

2. Albert H. Schmitt Family Farm – Dix Hills

Weekends September 17th through Halloween, plus Columbus Day, enjoy pumpkin picking, as well as hayrides and other fun activities for kids, including an animal train ride, a hayride, duck races, and a play area for little ones.

3. Fink's County Farm – Wading River

In addition to pumpkin picking, there are bounce houses an animal farm, pig races, live entertainment, and more here to keep the family entertained. Outside food and beverages are permitted in the picnic area. Fall festival runs on weekends and holidays only.

4. Lewin Farms – Wading River

Pick your pumpkins right off the vine. There is plenty of other seasonal produce to pick or purchase. Enjoy a 5-acre corn maze that changes every year. It's fine for little ones as long as an adult accompanies them. Reward yourself and your family with delicious roasted corn. The farm stand is open Wednesday-Monday. 5. Brightwaters Farms – Bay Shore

Pumpkin picking, hayrides, face painting, and farm animal feeding are just a few of the activities kids enjoy here. There's also a concession stand, country store, and farmers market. Additional activities and events happen on fall festival weekends. The season starts Saturday, October 1. 

6. Elwood Pumpkin and Christmas Tree Farm – Huntington

Pick pumpkins right off the vine at this farm. Enjoy hayrides and a small corn maze ideal for kids 10 and younger. 

7. May's Farm – Wading River

Kids can search for the perfect pumpkin in the patch. There's also a corn maze, hayrides, and pony rides on select weekends. Little ones can get their faces painted, decorate pumpkins, and even get a visit from Sesame Street's Elmo. Cider, roasted corn, and other treats are available.

8. Organics Today Farm – East Islip

Pick your organic pumpkins here and then hop on a tractor-pulled hayride. Goodies include roasted corn, hot apple cider, apple cider donuts, raw honey, and plenty of organic produce for purchase. The farm is open daily for pumpkin picking starting September 26. Admission is free.

Little ones can get in on the search for the perfect pumpkin at F&W Schmitt Family Farm in Melville.

9. F&W Schmitt Family Farm – Melville

Around for more than 50 years, attractions at this farm include a pumpkin stand, hayrides, farm animals, pony rides, and a haunted mansion for older kids (and adults). The annual fall festival runs through Sunday, October 30. The farm is open daily for pumpkin picking, though it's an additional fee on top of admission.

10. White Post Farms – Melville

The fall festival runs on weekends in September and October, starting September 25.  Admission includes unlimited hayrides, a haystack play area, family shows, and, of course, admission to the animal farm. 

11. Woodside Nursery & Garden Center – North Patchogue

Pumpkin picking and much more are available here for kids, including a dinosaur park exhibit, scarecrow making, a haunted tunnel, a bounce house, and "gold" mining. Pumpkin picking begins September 24.

LI Pumpkin Patches on the East End

12. Hank's PumpkinTown – Water Mill

Eight acres of pumpkins are ready to be picked off the vine here. Other family activities include a gigantic maze park that features three unique, interactive mazes, a playground, gem mining, narrated hayrides, duck races, and more. Homemade donuts and other fall treats are available. 

13. Fairview Farm – Bridgehampton

Families can pick their pumpkins, gourds, and squash, get lost in the giant corn maze, or test their aim with the corn cannon. Oversized tractor tires are filled with corn for kids' play. A country store offers plenty of goodies for purchase.

14. Harbes Family Farm — Jamesport, Mattituck, and Riverhead

There are three different Harbes Farm locations. Harbes Farm Jamesport is home to Harbes PumpkinLand, where pumpkins can be picked off the vine. There is also a 6-acre interactive corn maze, singing hayrides, and more. At Harbes Family Farm in Mattituck, you'll find the Barnyard Adventure Park, which features plenty of family activities and events, including two large pumpkin patches, two corn mazes, hayrides, gem mining, and more. Harbes Orchard in Riverhead offers pumpkin picking, a spooky corn maze, pony rides, and a Robin Hood corn maze.

15. Gabrielsen's Country Farm – Jamesport

Families can enjoy pumpkin picking, hayrides, a train ride, pedal tractors, bounce houses, and more at this family-owned farm. Fresh produce is available for purchase, and there is live music on the weekends.

16. Stakey's Pumpkin Farm – Aquebogue

Eighteen varieties of pumpkins on 26 acres are just waiting to be picked off the vine. There's also a corn maze, hayrides, a bounce house, and a country store. Pets are not allowed this season. Pumpkin picking season runs through Sunday, October 30.
