This Week: Best February Events for Kids in NYC, Cheap February Break Camps, Winter Fun in the Adirondacks Near Lake George, Best Sledding Hills in NYC

1/29/15 - By Raven Snook

Well that was a wild week! Although Tuesday's snow day was milder than predicted, like most NYC kids, my daughter had a fun day off from school hitting our favorite sledding hills and doing some cool crafts at home. Clearly winter is going to keep us on our toes this year, regardless of what the groundhogs tell us on Monday.

Sunday marks the first day of February so we posted a brand-new GoList highlighting the absolute best things to do with kids throughout the month, including annual favorites like Chinatown's Lunar New Year Parade. February also brings midwinter break for NYC public school kids. If you're thinking about a family getaway, we have lots of ideas on our Travel site like skiing and snow tubing in the Adirondacks near Lake George, plus our Snow Sports Guide featuring resorts throughout the tri-state area.

Here's what else we covered on the NYC site this week:

Grab your calendar: It's time to plan out your February family fun with our brand-new GoList, including can't-miss events like Lunar New Year Parades and family film fests.

Speaking of family flicks, tickets to the New York International Children's Film Festival just went on sale this week! We've got the scoop on the fest and nine other cool movie series for kids.

Although a few of our weekday event picks were canceled due to the snowstorm, Friday's FREE Winter Carnival in Bryant Park is definitely on.

Too cold for you to play outside? Then stay home and try a few of these fun indoor boredom busters like cool crafts, easy recipes and even safe indoor sports.

Another active indoor option? Queens' Indoor Extreme Sports, which offers laser tag and no-mess paintball—my daughter and I just went to a birthday party there last weekend and had a blast.

Midwinter break is fast approaching for public school students. If you can't take the time off, considering enrolling your kids in an affordable February break camp.

Hoping to get Junior a no-tears haircut? Try one of these Brooklyn hair salons for children.

This week's WeeWork projects included melted ice art and an easy yogurt-covered strawberry recipe perfect for Valentine's Day.

Best bets for the weekend include the Thunderbird American Indian Dancers at the Theater for the New City, a New Year celebration at the Korea Society and the Museum at Eldridge Street's annual Winter Green Festival.
