Collective Governors Island is set to bring 100 seasonal overnight accommodations to the Island's Western Development Zone, transforming the formerly under-utilized space into a luxury tent city similar to the Collective Retreat properties in the Hudson Valley, Texas Hill Country, and near Yellowstone National Park.
Collective Governors Island will offer overnight guests the chance to sleep in the shadow of Lady Liberty in a premium, double-occupancy tent with shared bathroom facilities or a luxury tent with en suite bathroom. The luxury tents come with king-size beds or two single beds, chandeliers, private decks with chairs, flush toliets, turndown service, and "ample sockets for your gadgets." Roughing it this is not!

Prices begin at $150 for the shared-bathroom tents, and $500 for the premium accommodations, though the company promises New Yorkers a special $75-per-night rate on select evenings and will reserve some time for nonprofit use, too. Prices are based on double occupancy, so plan to pay $100 more per child if you plan to bring them. Rooms are already available for booking.
While perks for guests include access to myriad free public offerings that have been a mainstay since the island's reopening, Collective Governors Island also plans to transform its lawn into a newly landscaped space ready to host additional events, adding to the rich public programming on the isle. It also boasts plans for new, open-to-the-public dining options.

The new dual zip line will be even longer in 2018!
More family fun is on the agenda for summer 2018, too. The Trust also said that Adventures at Governors Island, which debuted last year, will return to its spot in the Western Development Zone, with a zip line lengthened past last season's 300 feet, as well as a new refreshment area, and a shaded section for onlookers. Its maze and climbing wall will also return.
Governors Island opens to the public on Tuesday, May 1, and the season runs through Wednesday, October 31, mirroring the expanded 2017 schedule and allowing visitors to enjoy spring, summer, and fall on the isle. More information about seasonal food vendors and events will be made available as opening day approaches.
