Weekly Wrap Up: Where to Watch the Fireworks, Water Theme Parks and July 4 Weekend Fun

6/30/11 - By Raven Snook

There's a lot to celebrate this week: The end of school, the opening of public pools and, of course, the birth of our nation. There will be lots of fireworks on Monday, July 4. Macy's spectacular is the most famous but you can catch explosive displays in Long Island, New Jersey and Connecticut

Of course there's plenty of other things to do beyond holiday sparklers, like see a new interactive musical for little kids or take a day trip to a nearby water park.

And that's just a bit of what's going on. Here's what we covered this week on Mommy Poppins in NYC, New Jersey, Long Island and Connecticut.

OUR LATEST VIDEOS

New York City

We started the week with a great workout at The Ohmies: Morning Wish Garden, a new Off Broadway musical that gets kids (and their parents) up and doing yoga moves.

Then we gained back all those calories by visiting our top 12 NYC food trucks.

With the humidity rising, we're all about cooling off. That's why we highlighted our favorite local public pools and nearby water theme parks.

Of course we had fireworks on the brain, too. We did the research and found the best places to view Macy's 4th of July Fireworks on both sides of the Hudson River.

If you're out of town this weekend, don't fret: We also rounded up sparkler displays besides Macy's main event, some of which take place later in the summer.

It can't always be all about the kids. That's why one of our writers talked about all the fun she had at Accomplice New York, an interactive mystery that's great fun for adults.

Best bets for the three-day weekend include a candy carnival at Dylan's Candy Bar, fishing clinics in Prospect Park and SummerStage's Bronx Family Day.

New Jersey

Across the Hudson River, it's still all about fireworks. Find out where to see Macy's shindig, and get info on other explosive celebrations in the state.

The mother of a child on the Autistic spectrum highlights special needs support groups in Essex and Union counties.

Camping season is in full swing, and one family shared their awesome overnight experience at Harmony Ridge.

Weekend highlights include a Bug Safari in Princeton and the annual Independence Day Splash Party & Fireworks at Camden's Adventure Aquarium.

Long Island

Since all of Long Island is surrounded by water, it's a great place to take a boat ride. We highlighted eight amazing tours.

No, you can't see Macy's fireworks from the Island. But there are plenty of displays on LI, including a couple that happen prior to the big day (less crowds, hopefully).

Things to do over the weekend include the Stars and Stripes Festival in East Rockaway and the Long Island Children’s Museum's Go Fly A Kite! fest.

Connecticut

CT's got tips on dealing with summer camp anxiety.

Fireworks seem to be exploding all over the state.

Weekend events include Niantic's annual LobsterFest and the annual Danbury City Fair.
