Hamilton Park Farmers Market
Wednesdays 4pm-8pm through December 21st.
Picturesque Hamilton Park hosts its market right up through Christmas and the unusual weekday hours make it perfect for those of us too busy running around on Saturdays and Sundays. Along with the late autumn fruits and vegetables such as squash and leeks, you’ll find prepared foods and artisinal cheeses to take home on busy December evenings. The added bonus here is the great playground suitable for all ages – come early before it gets dark, have the kids tire themselves out playing and then browse to your heart’s content while they snack in their strollers. Grove PATH Plaza Farmers Market
Mondays and Thursdays 4pm-8pm through December 22nd.
Grove Plaza Farmers Market is another convenient produce pit stop – its location right outside the Grove Street PATH station makes it easy for parents to pick up staples for dinner on their way home from work.. This bustling location has a robust selection of fruits and veggies including acorn squash, yams, pears and apples. If the kids are in tow and you need to warm up after this chilly outing, stop at the nearby Brownstone Diner & Pancake Factory for their famous stuffed pancakes and everything else you could possibly imagine in a cozy, diner-like setting. Paulus Hook Farmers Market
Saturdays, 11am-4pm through the end of December,
Perfect for those families that enjoy leisurely Saturday mornings filled with cartoons and strong coffee, the Paulus Hook market doesn’t even open until 11am. The late start time also gives temperatures a chance to warm up a bit! Both organic and conventional produce is sold, mixed in with other treats and goodies. Though the market is mostly filled with neighborhood residents, it’s worth a visit even if you’re not a local – this charming section of Jersey City is right on the Hudson and after you grab your goods, enjoy a late afternoon stroll along the waterfront.
