Our New Camp Guide & Business Listings with Improved Search & Features

3/4/14 - By Anna Fader

Last fall, we asked our readers to take a short survey and share their thoughts about how to improve our Summer Camp Guide. Overwhelmingly, we heard that you wanted a combination of our editorial recommendations, plus the ability to search listings and find recommendations from other parents.

So we're happy to debut our newly updated Camp Guide and our Camp Directory, now featuring an improved search, parent reviews and star ratings, and other enhancements. Even better: Our overhauled Directory isn't just for camps. We have listings for party places and services, enriching classes, indoor play spaces and special needs services, too.

Read on to find out more or head straight to our Day Camp Guide, Sleepaway Camp Guide and Directory to browse the listings and leave reviews for your favorite programs.

Our Improved Search
We've added keyword search and pick-up locations for day camps
In addition to being able to search our listings by type of program or service, location and age, we added a keyword search. We even have a special search feature just for summer camps that lets you see which programs pick up in your area.

Reviews & Ratings
Give your opinion and hear from other parents like you

While we curate the camps we highlight on our site, we understand the value of hearing from families who have first-person experience with a particular program. Now you can get both. Help improve this resource for yourself and other parents by leaving reviews and star ratings for the programs you love, and see what other parents have to say about the ones you're interested in.

More Features, More Listings
350 businesses and counting

And that's not all. We've added photo galleries, maps and videos to our listings (when available) so you can find out more. Plus, we now have share buttons so you can email or Tweet about a program, or pin it to a board on Pinterest. Don't see a specific camp you love? Let us know and we'll try to add it.

We hope you find our new Business Directory and Camp Guide useful. Remember, this is just the beginning. We'll continue to add more businesses in the coming months and years! If you have any feedback about our new Directory, feel free to email us. We'd love to hear your thoughts.

Anna Fader

Founder & CEO of Mommy Poppins
Anna was born in Park Slope, spent her early years in the West Village. By the time she graduated high school, she had lived in 4 of the 5 boroughs. Growing up in NYC in the '70s meant the streets were her playgrounds. Museums and avant garde music venues were the kid-friendly activities. And living downtown taught her the importance of creating community for families in NYC.

Now, raising her own two children in the city, she tries to create the same sense of magic and community she felt growing up, despite today's more commercialized version of kid-friendly New York.

She started Mommy Poppins in 2007 to share a more artsy, educational, uncommercial, community-oriented vision of raising kids in New York City. Today Mommy Poppins is relied on by millions of families as the authority on the best things to do with kids beyond New York City: from Boston to Philly, Los Angeles, Houston and travel guides for dozens more cities and destinations.
