Looking for the best things to do in DC this weekend? Here are some family-friendly events and activities to add to your list for this weekend.

There's still some summer fun left as the season comes to a close. The Maryland State Fair and the Maryland Renaissance Festival both open their runs this weekend, while the Around the World Cultural Food Festival is on Saturday in Alexandria.

Extreme sports may seem, well, extreme, but they're totally safe and quite thrilling for kids who need a little adrenaline rush. They're also perfect things to do with teens and tweens who may roll their eyes at less exciting activities.

Summer is in full swing! July in Washington, DC is all about 4th of July fireworks and parades, outdoor movies and concerts, festivals and fairs, and more summer fun.

The DC area really celebrates Independence Day. Local towns and neighborhoods like Takoma Park, Vienna, and Capitol Hill have hometown festivities while the city plays host to large celebrations such as the National Independence Day Parade and the big DC fireworks show on the National Mall.

July also brings many other reasons to be outside, including the Loudoun County Fair, the Summer of Sunflowers, free DC summer concerts, and free outdoor movies.

Looking for the best things to do in DC this weekend? Here are some family-friendly events and activities to add to your list for this weekend.

It’s 4th of July weekend, and there's no better place to celebrate than our nation's capital! This year, the holiday falls on a Tuesday so there's lots of fun to be had over the weekend and on the actual 4th.

Kick off Independence Day with the big parade in Washington, DC, or head to a smaller hometown celebration such as Kensington's Fourth of July Bike Parade or the 4th of July Hometown Celebration & Fireworks in Great Falls, Virginia. Of course, there are plenty of fireworks shows to choose from, including the biggest one of all—the DC fireworks on the National Mall.

This month is bursting with summer festivals, free outdoor movies and summer concerts, Juneteenth celebrations, Pride Month events, and plenty of outdoor fun! Start off your summer with Open Streets on 12th Street NE. Walk or bike as your family enjoys activities, supports local businesses, and connects with community. If you're looking for kid-friendly summer shows, the Children's Theatre-in-the-Woods at Wolf Trap is back starting June 20 with shows from Tuesday through Saturday all summer long.

The Smithsonian Folklife Festival returns to the National Mall this year with activities, performances, and more to learn about the Ozarks region of the US and Living Religions. The festival runs for an entire week, including on the 4th of July (but not on July 5).
