If your little matey enjoys pirate hijinks and tall ships, head on over to the Boater's Maritime Festival this weekend in Port Jefferson. In conjunction with this two-day event, The Maritime Explorium is offering children's activities and tours of an 1885 schooner this Friday.

The long, blustery winter yielded a new batch of baby animals this spring at the Suffolk County Farm and Education Center in Yaphank. Visit and pet these furry little creatures on Saturday.

An unlikely victory for the Mexican army over French forces in the Battle of Puebla led to the celebration known as Cinco de Mayo (the 5th of May). There are several fun festivals this weekend sure to engage the whole family. The kids can also interact with various sea and land creatures at the Fish Hatchery Festival in Cold Spring Harbor, learn about chickens, farming and wool making at Chick-a-Palooza at Garden of Eve Farm in Aquebogue, check out the Arbor Day Festival in Oyster Bay, which will feature a kid's tree climb, planting clinics and other fun activities, or celebrate Earth Day at the Quogue Wildlife Refuge.

It's never too early to plan ahead for Mother's Day! Most restaurants are taking reservations, so check out our roundup of Mother's Day Brunches on Long Island.

It's here! It's here! Spring has sprung and the weather has finally been cooperative for consecutive days. Take advantage by heading outdoors to any of the several Easter Egg Hunts taking place this weekend. Or stay inside for some magical live performances, including The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley, 101 Dalmatians, Alice in Wonderland Ballet or Seussical Jr.

Long Island Kids' Activities April 5 & 6: April Fools' Hike, Magic Show, Fishing, Flat Stanley & More

While we all thought the snow earlier this week was Mother Nature's April Fools's Day joke on us, at least she warmed things up so that we could enjoy some fun in the sun. If you still want to fool around, head to Oyster Bay for an April Fools' Hike at Sagamore Hill or to Islip for Gary Ferrar's magic show.

For those itching to get outdoors, Belmont State Park is hosting a free Spring Family Fishing Festival and a Family Seal Walk is being held at Montauk State Park. Easter Egg Hunts also begin across Long Island this weekend.

LEGO Fun for Long Island Kids

Let kids build some fun of their own one brick at a time at one of these Long Island's play places that specializes in Lego fun.

Kids of all ages get a chance to design and create their own masterpieces in a variety of classes, and there's also the chance to hold birthday parties and special events at certain locations. Spring is in the air and (weather permitting) it's a great time to get outdoors. Become closer to nature this weekend at the Annual Thar She Blows festival at The Whaling Museum or on a Family Seal Walk in Montauk. Or head out to the South Fork Natural History Museum to learn how ocean animals use light.

If it's science you're interested in, Science Saturdays are in full swing at the Long Island Science Center, as are Nano Days at The Maritime Explorium.

Another weekend to show off your Irish pride, as there are four St. Patrick's Day parades stepping off Saturday and Sunday. Pick your corner of Long Island: Montauk, Glen Cove, Farmingdale or Rockville Centre.
