Covering events such as the World Series and Final Four fulfilled childhood dreams; as was taking a break from her career to stay home and raise her young son. She is a proud graduate of the Indiana University School of Journalism in Bloomington, Indiana. A long-time city dweller, (Atlanta and NYC) Pam now adores her home in central CT. She loves blogging about the beauty and culture the Nutmeg State offers for families.

Earth Day is Monday, April 22, and there is no better way to honor mother earth than by educating your children on how to keep her safe and clean. It is the largest environmental event across with globe, with over 100 countries participating. Our beautiful state has several events to mark the occasion.

April is Autism Awareness Month, and according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it affects 1 in 88 children, making it the fastest-growing developmental disability in the country, with no cure. The CDC also reports it can cost a family an average of $60,000 a year. I know several wonderful children who have been diagnosed, and their parents want awareness, research and resources to help their young ones live long, meaningful lives.

While I lived down south, spring meant pretty pastel sundresses and hiding eggs for the kids in fluffy, green grass. Connecticut welcomed the new season this week with a dose of the white stuff, so hopefully the snow can be cleared in time for the full slate of fun this weekend. Actually, some events may have been postponed so check with venues before venturing out.

March 17 has taken on a different feel since having children. Gone are the days of kegs and eggs at 8am followed by a day of adult debauchery. But St. Patrick's Day is now one of my favorite kid-friendly holidays, because you can get creative with turning everything green, and introducing lads and lasses to Irish music and culture.

Growing up, my mom always said to me that i'll never understand how much she loves me until I have a child of my own. I feel blessed to finally comprehend how my son has changed me forever. So while we often think of February 14 as being a romantic holiday, take some time to remind your children how much you adore them. I grew up in Florida, so the winter months are tough for me, especially when I feel cooped up with an active five-year-old boy. I plan to hit the pool with him, so he doesn't get rusty come May.
