Editor-in-Chief

Years spent at Nickelodeon prepared Roberta to launch Mommy Poppins' Los Angeles branch in 2011, eventually becoming Mommy Poppins Editor-in-Chief in 2013. Previously she served as LA Editor for GoCityKids, National Editor for ParentsConnect, and Editor for NickMom—all of which works out well for her son, who has grown up serving as Chief Guinea Pig for all things fun in LA and beyond.

Why Legoland Is My Favorite SoCal Theme Park

Why is Legoland California the favorite theme park of so many local parents? Read on to find out!

Southern California is blessed with some of the world's most famous theme parks; families travel from all over to experience Disneyland and the original Universal Studios Hollywood (including the Wizarding World of Harry Potter)—but just 90 miles to the south, in the San Diego suburb of Carlsbad, is a park that has at least as much to offer as the mouse and the wizard. There is a whole lot more to Legoland California than bricks, and truth be told I prefer a day there to any other major theme park.

Spring Break around Los Angeles is a moving feast; some districts have one week, and some have two. Some take a vacation in March, and some in April. As wonderful as summer can be, it is also a puzzle that must be solved, year after year. Will they go to camp? Day camp or sleepaway? If it's day camp, who will drive them and pick them up? Is there a camp by your office, and if so does that really sound like a fun place to spend summer vacation?

Wouldn't your kids prefer the beach or the mountains, enjoying fresh air, nature, and wide open space? Many LA camps offer this traditional, outdoor experience plus the bus ride to get there—some even include the ride for free! Check out the 9 camps below that give campers an adventure of swimming, surfing, horseback riding, hiking, and a variety of sports and performing arts—all without Mom or Dad needing to veer off the morning commute.

25 Things To Do in Venice Beach with Kids

Open up your costume closet for Venice Mardi Gras

Venice, California is about as unlike Venice, Italy as two cities could be, but the Bohemian beachside community has nonetheless acquired nearly as much fame as its namesake. Both Venices can boast canals, beach, and some larger-than-life parties, but LA's famous seaside tourist attraction replaces old world charm with funkadelic grunge, opera with karaoke, and gondoliers with bodybuilders.

Sandwiched between Santa Monica and Marina del Rey, Venice may be small but has its own distinct personality. And the 25 kid-pleasing activites below are good for a few days' worth of fun in the sun, Venice style.

These 5 Trampoline Parks in Los Angeles Offer Kids Wall-to-wall Jumping

Bounce and repeat. What else do we need to say? Big kids, little kids, they all like to jump. Even Mom and Dad can occasionally enjoy trampoline time (though they might just prefer the trampoline park below that offers massage chairs on the sidelines). Bring a pack of kids for a birthday party, and they'll all sleep well afterwards; bring an antsy one on a rainy day, and watch the mood change for the better. Note that the 8 jumping gyms below can get seriously rambunctuous, but most offer special times or areas for toddlers and preschoolers. And if there's a stuntkid in your family, these are definitely addresses you need to know.
