The Autry shows silent films the way they were meant to be seen—on the big screen with live musical accompaniment.

June's film stars Tom Mix as a government immigration officer.

 Screening Schedule:

June 3: Sky High (1922)

About the film:  Western superstar Tom Mix plays a government immigration agent tasked with breaking up a smuggling ring that is transporting Chinese immigrants across the U.S. / Mexico border. The trail leads to the Grand Canyon, providing a unique setting for climbing stunts and chases, both on horseback and in the air.

As well as providing the impetus for heroic stunts by Mix, the plot is a stark reminder that the era of the Chinese Exclusion Act extended all the way into the 1940s, as well as resonating with conversations around immigration today.

Showcasing a wide variety of early cinema in the best available formats, The Silent Treatment is a long-running silent movie film series curated by film archivists Brandee Cox and Steven Hill.
