Now that September is here, Philly parents may be wondering how to keep their kids entertained without breaking the bank. After all, recovering from summer expenses can be rough. Thankfully, Mommy Poppins Philadelphia has rounded up plenty of free events and activities to keep Philly kids learning and discovering as we transition into the season of fall.

This month features many free outdoor experiences. Kids can hike through Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education, identify trees at Green Lane Park, boat along the Schuylkill River at Bartram's Gardens, and search for constellations at Valley Forge National Historical Park. Community events such as Caln Community Day and Bryn Mawr Day provide family activities such as fire truck rides, mini-golf, and live music.

After spending time outside, take a break and head indoors to some of the area's best museums. The Barnes, Museum of the American Revolution, Please Touch Museum, Franklin Institute, National Museum of American Jewish History, and National Constitution Center all offer free or deeply discounted admission.

As the weather changes from hazy, hot, and humid to brisk and cool, don't forget to find great bargains for the kids at local consignment sales. Our Fall Consignment Sales post is regularly updated with the latest sale information.

With so much to do this month, it’s time to open up that calendar app on your phone and start scheduling some fun (and free!) activities.
