Love Your Park Returns to Philadelphia this Month

One of the things that makes living in Philadelphia unique is the dedication to green and clean spaces. This month, from May 7-14 Philadelphia celebrates the annual Love Your Park week. Whether you live near a tiny parklet, or near some of the cities major park attractions, families can get involved with making their space a little nicer, giving back to their community and sharing in a family-friendly event that teaches about the environment, and neighborhood impact. In addition to clean-ups, this city-wide event features family-friendly festivals and guided nature hikes to add an extra dose of fun to your service day!

Family-Friendly Movie Theaters and Showings in Philadelphia

When was the last time you went to see a movie? I don’t mean on Netflix. I mean an actual movie theater experience? If you are a new mom, or the parent of a child who has sensitivities to light and sound, it’s probably been a while. And while indoor activities are all fun and good, sometimes you need to get out and see a movie with friends, your spouse or just you and the kid(s). Wait, see a movie with the kids? As crazy as it sounds, with a few local resources, you can get out with the little one in tow and enjoy a movie. No need to worry about how loud your child is, these movie venues are ready and excited to have you and your brood join them!

A new indoor play gym launched in Philadelphia this year! East Falls is now home to Kids at Play, a bright, shiny, 7,000 foot indoor playground and seriously cool entertainment zone that is easy on the eyes (specifically designed for children with sensory issues in mind), and invites creative play and exploration. The Chestnut Hill East SEPTA train serves Chestnut Hill, Mt Airy, and Germantown. Rich in history and cultural experiences, this could easily become a favorite SEPTA line. In the summer, plenty of parks and playgrounds are worth checking out, as well as many fun family excursions. Tarantulas! Alive and Up Close at The Academy of Natural Sciences

I've never been that into creepy crawlies. And I am quite terrified of most insects and spiders. But as a mother I happily take on the challenge of facing my fears, in an effort to expose my little one to new and exciting experiences. The Tarantulas: Alive and Up Close exhibit, which just opened at the Academy of Natural Sciences, is one of these experiences. And, as often happens, it turned out to be way more awesome than I expected!
