New York City kids are kicking off their February school break with a jam-packed Presidents Day weekend. Chinese Lunar New Year events rev up this weekend with festivals and parades in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, but there's also the lesser-known (but just as festive) Japanese Snow Festival and the Himalayan New Year celebration at the Rubin Museum just for families.

The city marks Presidents Day with family events, such as an oppportunity to meet "President" George Washingtion and First Lady Martha and more historical figures at the New-York Historical Society, as well as the uptown Washington's Birthday Ball. Black history events run throughout the month, and we've flagged this weekend's The Langston Hughes Project concert as a must-see.

But this weekend also boasts the first NYC Lego Live, and some more unusual events to check out like a citywide, FREE Sword Dance Festival and the balloon-filled New York City Ballet atrium at Lincoln Center, an art installation from Jihan Zencirli Geronimo. Plus, The Gruffalo Live opens for little theatergoers, and there are more great shows playing.

Don't miss the kickoff to February break week activities, including Kids Week at the Intrepid and Engineering Week at NYSCI.

We've also got you covered for the rest of the cold-weather season with our Museum and Indoor Play Space Guides. If you'd rather escape the city for a day, check out our picks for the Best Winter Day Trips. As always, the Event Calendar, February GoList, and Free February Fun list have even more ideas for family-friendly activities in the Big Apple.
