The promise of NYC summer fun is right around the corner. One of our favorite annual events, the Macy's Fourth of July fireworks display, is ready to light up the city skyline and what better way to see the show than aboard one of the many family-friendly July 4th cruises that set sail that evening? The display illuminates the East River annually, and nothing quite compares with watching the celebration up close from the water on a July 4th cruise in NYC.
Of course, these special July 4th fireworks cruises don't come cheap, and many are only open to ages 21 and older. We set out to find the lowest-cost July 4th cruises in NYC that also welcome children. If you're interested, book quickly. Some already have sold out and the remaining tickets will be gone before you know it.
With so much going on in NYC, it can be overwhelming to sift through all the events to land on something that's truly special. There are many family festivals in New York City that make a great jumping-off point for a day of fun. Some New York City celebrations are so great they're worth going every year, like the interactive, art-filled Figment, which shifts to Snug Harbor on Staten Island this year, the adorable Sheep Shearing Festival at the Queens County Farm Museum, and Street Games, the Parks Department's tribute to old-school pastimes.
I know I'm not the only mom out there who likes to plan ahead, and since the festival season kicks into high gear this month, we figured it was a great time to round up our top annual family festivals in NYC. Every single pick on our list is worth your time and money—and in many cases, they don't cost a penny.
Have a budding golf pro at home? It should come as no surprise that New York City is home to a handful of stellar golf summer camps—many taught by world-class golf professionals. All of the golf summer camps feature on-course golf training. We've also found some high-tech golf simulators in the city that offer junior golf lessons. Kids as young as age 5—whether they're beginners or seasoned golfers—can take advantage of these golf summer camps and golf classes in Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and the Bronx.
