Weekday Picks for Philly Kids: Trains, Nutcracker, Museums Dec 14-18

How much longer until Christmas? is the question posed to many parents throughout the Delaware Valley around this time of year. Children are full of anticipation, yet parents are weary from holiday preparations such as card sending, gift wrapping, and elf-moving. (How many times have you forgotten to move your elf so far?)

Make your life a little easier by keeping the kids busy with activities from our Events Calendar. This week does not disappoint. Check out Star Wars Night at Franklin Square. Make Crafts in the Playhouse at Smith Memorial Playground. Take a train ride on New Hope & Ivyland Railroad or stop by the Delaware Art Museum to see The Muppet Christmas Carol at Popcorn & Pictures.

Weekend Fun for Philly Kids: Seaport Parade, Ice Carving, Theater Dec 12-13

Submitted by Kristen Sullivan on Wed, 12/09/2015 - 11:00pm

When I was little, the holidays were full of excitement. Even the slightest chance of receiving that year's coveted "must-have" toy was enough to have butterflies for weeks! However, as a parent, I realize that it isn't the things we have as much as the memories we make that keep the holidays special.

For great ideas on how to create those memories, turn to our Events Calendar which is filled with many activities. See Santa arrive by chopper to the American Helicopter Museum. Watch the re-enactment of General Washington crossing the Delaware. Experience the one-of-a-kind Seaport Parade of Lights. Or, visit East Passyunk Avenue's Ice Carving Festival as it is transformed into a winter wonderland.

To keep up with the latest family-friendly fun, be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest. Have fun making memories this weekend.

Weekend Fun for Philly Kids: Holiday Concerts, Festivals, Hanukkah Dec 5-6

Submitted by Kristen Sullivan on Wed, 12/02/2015 - 7:30pm

For many throughout the Delaware Valley, the first weekend in December means preparing for the winter holidays with special family traditions. Cutting down your own Christmas tree, sharing Hanukkah stories, taking in a Nutcracker performance, and attending the town's tree lighting ceremony are all ways Philly families get into the spirit of the season.

Even though traditions are important in making the holiday familiar, consider creating a new one this year. Schedule breakfast with Santa. Climb aboard for a winter train ride. Attend the annual Dickens Festival. Or, celebrate Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa at a benefit concert.

Read on to find our top picks for the weekend, and be sure to stay connected with Mommy Poppins Philly on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest. Have fun making memories with old and new traditions alike!
