Weekday Picks for Philly Kids: Parades, Hanukkah, Santa Nov 30-Dec 4

Now that Philly families have made it through Thanksgiving and we don't have to worry about what we are fixing for dinner all week (leftovers anyone?), our attention can turn towards the fun and excitement of the winter holidays.

Our Events Calendar offers many opportunities to get into the spirit of the season. Bring your family, including your dog or cat, for pictures with Santa at the mall. Listen to Hanukkah stories at the library. Take an imaginary ride on the Polar Express at Brandywine River Museum. Or, attend Malvern's Victorian Christmas Celebration.

Weekday Picks for Philly Kids: Turkey Trots, Parade, Black Friday Nov 23-27

Thanksgiving is almost here, and every family has its own traditions that make it special. Whether it's running a Turkey Trot, watching football, cooking dinner for 40 from scratch, or going to the Thanksgiving Day parade, everyone has a unique way to celebrate this holiday centered around family.

But before sitting down to eat turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce, be sure to take a look at our Events Calendar, which is bursting with storytimes, nature experiences, and museum activities. To narrow down your options, select a specific age, type, and area. Weekend Fun for Philly Kids: Trains, Turkeys, Theaters, Nov 21-22

It is evident from the autumnal activities on our Events Calendar that Thanksgiving is swiftly approaching! A variety of seasonal fun is featured this weekend. Philly families can watch a Thanksgiving movie, run (or walk) in a 5K turkey trot, view the fall foliage by train, or go on a nature walk to find wild turkeys.

However, if your family is looking to start the holiday season early, there are many theater productions to help get you in the spirit of the season. The Media Theatre's Jack Frost Saves Christmas and Upper Darby's Performing Arts Center's The Nutcracker are set to entertain audiences this weekend while Laurie Berkner's Holiday Show gets kids singing and dancing at her concert.

When expecting my first child, I was told, "The days are long but the years are short." As my oldest son nears double digits, I realize how true that quote is. Thankfully, our Events Calendar can help make the days go quickly while savoring special moments with your kiddos.

By mid-November, Philly families can sense the excitement of the holidays. So, does our Events Calendar, as it is jam-packed with events celebrating the season. Santa has arrived at the mall and holiday shows have already hit the stage.

However, if you aren't quite ready to delve into the holidays, there are tons of wonderful non-holiday events this weekend. Attend the National Dog Show at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center. But, the reality is that the first two weeks of the month provide a brief pause for Philly families before the hustle and bustle of the holidays set in.
