'Tis the weekend before Christmas... and there's still lots of festive fun to be had, especially with Hanukkah falling the same week as Christmas this year. Families won't want to miss Matt Heaton's Holiday Hootenanny, an interactive reading starring Rudolph, or the Boston Common Menorah Lighting. For last-minute holiday shopping, the Harvard Square Holiday Craft Fair is the place!

Your kids can see their favorite characters on skates at the Holiday on Ice Show and Disney on Ice: Worlds of Enchantment. Looking to mix a little nature into the glitzy festivities? Visit the Boston Nature Center to Welcome the Winter Solstice. After this busy weekend winds down, look to our picks for things to do over holiday break with Boston kids.

The Christmas trees are decorated and shopping is in full swing. Why not set the excitement to music? The Christmas Revels have an Americana theme this year, Newton hosts a Celebrations choral concert with the Boston Ballet, and Matt Heaton is having his annual holiday hootenanny. Carol with a mariachi band at Posada Navideña or see a classic Dickens's holiday tale in dance form at What the Dickens.  Of course, Somerville's annual Illuminations Tour of the neighborhood's most awesomely decorated homes is sure to put you in the holiday spirit, too. Don't forget to check our Boston Holiday Fun Guide for even more ideas.

Hanukkah and Kwanzaa events are on tap this weekend, too. Discover the true meaning of Kwanzaa at Tafuta!, or do experiments with oil, fire, and light at It's a Mad Science Hannukah. However you are celebrating the season, keep tabs on our events calendar and Facebook page for the latest scoop.

The holidays are here and with them a bounty of family activities, each more festive than the last. For free fun, there's Live Nativity and Christmas Celebration on Boston Common, a Christmas party with a German twist at Christkindlmarkt, and Holly-Day on the Harbor with music, face painting, and more. We love this science fair with holiday flair at the Chanukah-themed STEAM Fair (dreidel competition included!). Enjoy the music of the season with the Holiday Pops and the Boston College Band's Christmas Festival, and catch the Mayor's Enchanted Trolley Tour coming to a Boston neighborhood near you.

Better watch out...for new and exciting activities popping up on our events calendar and our Facebook page. Our Boston Holiday Fun Guide will point you to even more special ways to celebrate the season.

Dust off those running shoes and get ready for the pre-Thanksgiving feast turkey trots! A few popular ones include the Franklin Park, Family Gratitude, and the Feaster Five, with race proceeds going to worthy causes. If you prefer to trails to roads, why not hike with goats? Science enthusiasts will love the F.A.T. Chain Reaction, and Disney fans should check out this Holiday-Themed Play Date.

Speaking of the holidays, we've just about reached the point when you can shamelessly turn up the Christmas tunes, have breakfast or take selfies with Santa, pick out your own tree, or celebrate a tree lighting in town. The Macy's Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony happens Friday. In the meantime, from all of us at Mommy Poppins, we hope you have a delicious, plentiful, and joyous Thanksgiving!

We're in a turkey frame of mind this weekend with this program at the Boston Nature Center as well as this huge Thanksgiving Celebration where history comes to life (in parade form!). In other holiday delights, ZooLights illuminates Stone Zoo, and the area's newest light show in Marshfield is lighting up the South Shore, starting this weekend. Celebrate the season as Charles Dickens did at the Dickens Festival and enjoy more Christmas fun activities at the Holiday Happenings fundraiser. What's better than storytime? A storytime with singing, dancing, and music!

See our holiday fun guide for more seasonal festivities, and don't forget to subscribe to our free weekly newsletter and check our full events calendar for additional ideas.

Halloween may be over but don't put those costumes away just yet; Anime Boston is back for a weekend of cosplay fun at the Museum of Science. Why not don a kilt for a traditional Scottish fest at the Scottish Ceilildh or decorate sugar skulls at this Dia de los Muertos Family Celebration? If you're feeling charitable, be sure to check out Create the Change Day and make a difference with Project Giving Kids.

There's a lot to enjoy on the stage, too, from Willy Wonka to Cinderella to dragon puppets. Have fun out there!
