Ahoy mateys! This weekend is the Antique & Classic Boat Festival in Salem, where families can watch some truly amazing vessels on the water and even maybe see what it's like to ride one. While you're on the North Shore, swing by the Connors Farm Peach Festival and ride their new custom-built Putnam Railroad train. Got a sick teddy? Bring your favorite bear or stuffie to Stone Zoo for a check up. It's also your last chance to visit the Marshfield Fair until next summer.

Let's hope these perfect, late-summer temps continue this weekend with all of the outdoor fun Boston has to offer. From the Fisherman Feast in the North End to a fair in Marshfield that people have been flocking to for over a century, this weekend is packed with some of Massachusetts' most beloved August events.

Want to exercise your mind as well as your legs? Check out this family scavenger hunt. You can also celebrate the power of water, go green, catch a lion dance, float like a butterfly, or enjoy a lobster bake on the waterfront. Fall is fast approaching, so max out on these long days with these or other activities from our end-of-summer checklist.

August may not seem like typical theater season but this weekend there are not one, not two, but three kid-friendly performances happening around Boston. We're also excited about a few of MP's favorite August events, including one with stars, s'mores, and meteors, one song spectacular for all ages, and a real summer campout. Music lovers should head to Jamaica Pond for a popular classical music concert, and dance enthusiasts should check out this new fest by Urbanity. Don't forget to celebrate World Lion Day at the zoo!

This weekend has some of MP's favorite fests happening all over the Boston area that families will not want to miss. Kids can marvel at sandcastle masterpieces before heading in town for this annual collaborative and interactive art fest. Light up the night at not one but two events dedicated to illumination. Go a little north to catch this popular family friendly festival that celebrates cultures from around the world. There is even a new festival dedicated entirely to everyone's favorite breakfast treat!

The fun doesn't end there: This fantastic, kids-only circus returns to Boston, and there's family-friendly opera and Shakespeare happening, too. Enjoy the weekend, both outdoors and in!

Weekend Fun: Space, Science, and a River Fest

“That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” It's hard to believe that it's been fifty years since Neil Armstrong uttered those words as he walked on the moon, and Boston is ready to commemorate this monumental achievement. Lunar celebrations are taking place at the Museum of Science and JFK Library, as well as in Cambridge and Worcester.

Over the moon? How about some science under the sun instead? Also not-to-be-missed: A super cool river fest, a visit with some new zoo babies, and perhaps the coolest Boston theater performance this year (as far as many local 'tweens are concerned): Percy Jackson's The Lightning Thief.

Nothing says summer more than being outdoors, eating awesome food, and just plain having fun. In Boston, we're lucky enough to have these options all summer long, and many are kid-friendly. This weekend, budding chefs can learn the fine art of pasta making or eat as much pizza as they can eat. The annual, WGBH FunFest is back, along with one of our picks for summer art-themed events. Young scientists can get up close with some creepy crawlies or learn how to create slime "ice cream." Sports lovers won't want to miss this all-weekend tournament (with a special event on Sunday just for kids).
